Help never far away for Don

A CRANBROOK man has recounted the moment a stolen vehicle ran into his car and how the first people on the scene helped him through the ordeal.

Don Talbot, 77, was driving to the doctor just before Christmas when a speeding stolen vehicle on the run from police crashed into the back of his car on Ross River Rd, sending his car spinning and narrowly missing a tree.

The accident happened directly outside NQIB’s Kirwan office, and account executive Jodie Kimber arrived just as it happened and rushed to help.

“I went over to see if Don had any injuries as I have a background in firstaid,” she said.

“( NQIB employees) Sharon and Nikki had already gotten Don out of his car and the police had arrested the 19- year- old girl who was speeding in the stolen car.

“Don had a scratch on his arm that Nikki and Sharon had bandaged up for him.”

Mr Talbot said the terrifying experience was made a lot easier with the help of the NQIB team.

“I was so lucky, but shaken pretty well,” he said.

“They were so quick to help me, get me a cup of tea and get my wheely walker out of the car.

“It’s a terrible thing to hap- pen in our suburb shouldn’t happen.”

Mr Talbot and his partner were to tow their caravan to Cairns for a holiday but that was postponed after his car was written off.

“Wonderful car it was, too, and it it would have gone around Australia no trouble,” he said.

Ms Kimber said the impacts of the crime were felt long after the crash.

“You work hard for your belongings and for not only his car to be taken from him but his holiday to also be taken from him, there’s a lot of other things,” she said. I felt really sad that it had happened, it was just the worst time of year for it to happen.”

Mr Talbot has now switched his insurance to NQIB.
