Holden tell Ford to stop whining

- PAUL GOVER

FORD teams have been told to stop whingeing and concentrate on racing at Albert Park this weekend.

As a fight over parity among the Supercars contenders continues to fester in the lead- up to the AGP meeting, the head of Holden motorsport has had enough.

Roland Dane says the Falcon fighters have been aware of the racing package for the latest ZB Commodore for nearly a year but did not react until the car started winning in the first round of this year’s championship.

Ford has asked for last- minute concessions on lightweight body panels after the ZB swept the board in Adelaide, where Shane van Gisbergen drove to a pair of pole positions and twin wins in Dane’s Red Bull Holden Racing Team car.

“They need to stop moaning and do a better job,” Dane says. “We’ve had one race meeting and they are complaining about our car. They need to look at their own cars.”

The AGP meeting pays championship points for the first time this year and that has added heat to the pre- race build- up and the parity performance of the cars.

But Dane says the Falcon fighters have had plenty of time to prepare for the arrival of the new V8 Commodore, which will also be raced with a twinturbo V6 engine later this year.

“They have known since August last year what we were doing with the new Commodore. They had the chance to have a composite roof on the Falcon and they said no,” he said. “They need to deal with it internally. They should talk internally before they talk to the whole world.”

The Falcons are almost certain to get concessions this week, most likely a lightweight composite bonnet and roof to mirror the Commodore, with new parts already under construction ahead of formal approval from Supercars.
