GAMING NOT EXACTLY CHILD’S PLAY

-

biggest current gaming trend is multiplayer, but is it parent friendly?

It’s earning the most sales, and game streamers earning millions of views, and a few good dollars along the way because of the popularity.

Some of the more prominent games, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite, are fighting for supremacy, revolving around a giant battle royale with 100 players. Both games have now released mobile versions of the games, making it next to impossible to escape the vortex of multiplayer gaming.

Life is full of interruptions, so suddenly going AFK in the middle of a 100- person contest is a sure fire way to end your playthrough. On the menu screen, someone must have found my player cowering in that bathtub. But there have been some ripping good single player games releasing, with more on the way.

Recently I’ve been enjoying Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a realistic medieval style game where your character is a dopey blacksmith’s son trying to survive in war- torn Bohemia.

There are a lot of cutscenes to play through, and myself and other players discovered a few unsettling things.

Firstly, you cannot pause anywhere in the cutscene. Secondly, they’ve made it super difficult to save your progress.

Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the odd competitive gaming, but if I can’t pause my game because my baby has woken up unexpectedly or thrown her bowl of mushed vegetables across the room into the dog’s bowl, well it becomes a lot less fun.
