Skewed priority
THE Townsville Bulletin report on March 22 that a large crocodile was loose in Townsville and the totally inadequate response from Department of Environment coincided with the first reading in Parliament of a Bill to permit culling of crocodiles in Queensland.
KAP MP Shane Knuth tabled his Bill but this Bill is doomed to failure because even the MPs from Townsville will not stand up for their electorates.
In Africa game wardens are responsible for the shooting of wildlife that threatens people’s livelihood.
An elephant that strays into a banana plantation is shot by National Parks rangers.
In Queensland the equivalent public servants are responsible for ensuring wildlife takes precedence over human life.
This croc, however, is not just a threat to livelihood but it is a threat to human life.
It is time for readers of Townsville Bulletin to let their MPs Coralee O’Rourke, Scott Stewart, Aaron Harper and Dale Last know that the electorate will not tolerate them voting to endanger the lives of Townsville residents.
Mr Knuth’s Bill is a great im- provement on the current situation.
The Bill, however, should require that environment officers serve the public and the croc should have been shot before the Townsville Bulletin was even published on Wednesday night.
The fact that the croc is still a threat to Townsville residents shows how little respect that ALP and LNP governments have for human life.
The major parties are both as bad as each other.
