BULLS UPBEAT DESPITE L OSS

-

CHARTERS Towers are confident their rebuild is on the right track after a flurry of late tries blew out the scoreline in their 39- 0 loss to Brothers at Mike Carney Toyota Park on Saturday.

In their second season back in the top grade after a 16- year hiatus, the injury- hit Bulls managed to stem the bleeding before the Brethren ran riot late in the game.

The Bulls have set a target of doubling their three wins last season in 2018, and coach Len Knuth is pleased with their progress after beating University last week.

“I thought fitness hurt us a bit at the end and we were getting a bit too impatient and turning over balls,” Knuth said.

“We have had a loss of experience with some older players moving on after last year, but the new players have made a massive difference.

“Overall I’m happy where we are at. In our first year last year we weren’t expecting any wins and we got three, we’re looking to double that this year.”

Brothers coach Shane Laskey said he was more pleased with his side’s defence than the seven tries they racked up.

“That was one of the goals before the game to keep them scoreless and we achieved that,” Laskey said.

“Towers are improving, they unfortunately copped a few more injuries which didn’t help them.”

In other matches Ross River beat University 59- 0, and Teachers West beat North Ward 50- 7.
