No flies on me, greeting rain’s a worthy cause

-

“SLOW flies”! Check your flies, are they slower than normal? There is a proven scientific fact from the B. A. T. fact file, Barbers And Taxi drivers, that you may not know!

And they heard it from me, because I heard it from the greatest weatherman since Noah, Christie Taifolas.

Slow flies mean a cyclone in the vicinity, so our flies should be flying backwards. As we have two, well sorta two, “you can’t Ignora” Nora, and “don’t fire us” Iris.

Our mates in the North have certainly copped it again, and our thoughts are with them; those videos of the Port Douglas road are amazing. This has certainly been a true monsoon season like those of old, albeit much later.

But to bring us back to reality, and I don’t go there often, today is the anniversary of Cyclone Debbie, and Cyclone Tessi walloped us on the first of April, so no packing away the old towels from near the doors and windows yet.

The great news, though, is that Ross Puddle, our dam, is over 90 per cent, and the greater news, the bloke that measures it has to wear gumboots, not thongs, so it must be deep.

The rain, love it as we do, has made a few things a little difficult, like washing, but that was not what I meant, because I just turn it inside out, hang it in the fresh air overnight and I get another week out of it; JOKING.

Our amazing Cruise For Keely, even though the threat of rain was there, people came, the cars came, the magic came, we loved it and thanks to all. Yesterday we paid $ 9106.35 cents to help with lifesaving operations for our cancer girl Keely. This brave little girl has raised many hundreds of thousands of dollars for others, so our local car clubs wanted to help her out. How special, eh?

I hope you don’t mind, I’d like to mention a few of these wonderful North Queenslanders, Damo and Liberty Eggins, Townsville Rodders and Custom Car club, Cyclones Car Club, NQ Ford Performance Club, Tastee Roastee, Bumper To Bumper, our mates at Lavarack, Sisters Of Steel, Peter and Serina from TMS for the Ferrari and the Lamborghini ( it took five of us to get my Barb out of the Ferrari, nail marks on the dash, she loved it.)

G’day to the mum with her two boys who came specially to ride in the ’ 57 black Chevvy, thanks so much. In these tough times our great city always helps as much as we can, and we thank all who came along, it was a fantastic night.

Maybe in August we thought of a daytime run, take the very special kids for a ride, make them feel even more special, and have the show at Jezzine. But before that, we have our Convoy For the Cure on May 20, for our amazing truckies, helping research kids’ cancer.

Enjoy the liquid sunshine, Happy Days, Happy Easter.
