PLAY TELEVISION CURTIS FINDS RIGHT WORK RECIPE
irony of saying he is pulling back on his television work after receiving three Emmy Award nominations is not lost on Curtis Stone.
The superstar Aussie chef has become more picky with the work he takes on since becoming a father to Hudson, 6, and Emerson, 2.
But he’s still very busy and his show, Top Chef Jr, has scored three nods at America’s big television awards, the Daytime Emmys, which will be held later this month.
“I don’t do a ton of television any more,” Stone said. “I wanted to pull back from it a little and certainly do less travel around television. In some ways, we are making decisions together, my wife and I, around what works for us right now. It means I get to pick and choose a little bit what fits in with the rest of our life.”
Stone’s actor wife, Lindsay Price, is working on a new show, the Ellen DeGeneres- produced comedy Splitting Up Together. And 42- yearold Stone has just started shooting the second season of Top Chef Jr and also runs two eateries in Los Angeles – Maude’s and Gwen – named after his grandmothers.
Child employment laws mean the youngsters on the set of Top Chef Jr can only work six- hour days, which leaves Stone time for business and family.
“I can still be in the restaurants in the evening or if I can take the night off. I can be at home having dinner with the family,” he said. “I feel so lucky because my work is my passion.”
Stone recently re- imagined Maude with a new concept and design, basing the menu on different wines from around the world.
He also hosted an Aussie Happy Hour at the famous South By South West music festival in Texas and will have a Gwen pop- up at the celebrity- filled Coachella music festival this month.
