Hypocrisy of air strike

-

WITH the escalating conflict in Syria generating worldwide concern, it is such a pity that the Western world hears only the one- sided versions and news broadcasts that various Western governments want the population to believe.

It is a fact that of all the global wars that have followed World War II, invariably the US has been involved, directly or indirectly, under the pretext of saving the world from some dangerous ten- headed communist monster or someone similar.

The Syrian conflict began as a virtual civil war with which the elected government of the day has had to deal.

The conflict should have remained within Syrian borders, but, of course, has since been clouded by the Kurds, ISIS, and US leading the anti- government forces, and then by Russian and Iranian intervention on the government side.

The recent US, French and British air strikes on Syrian territory were virtually an act of war. It came, however, under the guise of retribution for the alleged use of nerve gas or similar, on pockets of resistance still holding out against the Syrian regime.

I am not condoning the use of chemical warfare, but the US, in particular, is the last country that should be crying “foul”, when their use of chemical weaponry in the Vietnam War should have sparked similar worldwide condemnation.

Of course, I refer to the indiscriminate use of Agent Orange and napalm against the civilian Vietnamese population.

While accurate details will never be known, it is documented that Agent Orange alone killed 400,000 souls, and since the end of the war, left 500,000 more ( and rising), with associated birth defects. Need I say more?! DON MORRIS,

Cranbrook.
