Cook finds a new kitchen

- CHRISTIE ANDERSON property editor christie.anderson@news.com.au

MEAL prep business Absolute Cravings have found a new base to whip up their paleo meals taking over the old Meals on Wheels kitchen in North Ward.

Owner Giina Lashmar moved into 20 Warburton St last month and said despite the kitchen needing some urgent maintenance, it was ideally set up for her business.

“When we moved in it was putrid and disgusting because it hadn’t been used for seven years,” she said.

“There was food up on the ceiling and there was rotted wood.

“I had to replace the wood and I put a lot of work into it.

“It’s set out perfectly for a meal prep business and I’ve also got cooking lessons booked and there is a space here that is perfect for that.”

The local, family- owned business had been based at Strand Fitness on Flinders St before they cut ties and leased the North Ward kitchen.

As well as the kitchen being used for cooking up to 800 meals a week, customers can pick up their meals or they can have them delivered.

Ms Lashmar, who has lost 28kg herself, bases her food around what she likes to eat and all her meals are preservative, gluten and dairy free.

She makes paleo meals, fitness meals, salads and clean desserts which are also stocked across Townsville in stores such as Skinny’s Supa Deli, Health 4 Life Nutrition and Townsville Family Life Organics.

Ms Lashmar, who is a qualified health and nutrition coach said they had received great feedback on their meals and they were becoming increasingly busy.

“The feedback I’ve gotten is just phenomenal,” she said.

“I try and make everything low- carb because that's the way I eat and I only make things that I wat to eat.

“All our meals are made with really high- quality ingredients, are larger portions and really filling.”
