TELEVISION PLAY RADNOR’S BACK ON THE RISE

- DANIELLE MCGRANE

I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor, who played Ted Mosby in the popular show for nearly 10 years, has ruled out returning to the role.

Radnor, who is starring in new TV show Rise, says he has no desire to return to the role he played from 2005- 14, despite the trend to reboot popular shows such as Roseanne and Will & Grace.

“It would not be interesting to me,” he said. After the show ended, Radnor purposely took on more low- key work.

“I went back to the theatre — I did a play on Broadway, I did a play at Lincoln Centre. I did a series on PBS about the Civil War called Mercy Street and a couple of other little things. I started a band.”

Radnor has since been enticed back to another prime time show, Rise, created by Friday Night Lights showrunner Jason Katims. “I’ve been a big fan of Jason’s for many years ... He’s kind of a gift for actors because he writes really dimensional people who are not stereotypes and are just complicated like all of us,” Radnor said. Within a week of meeting with Katims, the actor had signed on to play the show’s central character, teacher Lou Mazzuchelli, who reinvents a high school drama group to make it more progressive and relevant to the students involved.

Radnor hopes to come back for a second season but is busy working with Australian singer- songwriter Ben Lee in their new musical duo, Radnor & Lee.

“We’re coming to Australia in May and then we’re going to record our second record in June,” he said.
