RIDE WAY TO LIVE HEALTHY LIVES

- CLARE ARMSTRONG

GETTING fit and active doesn’t have to be a chore or a big investment.

That’s the message the Townsville City Council are giving to people as the end of their annual 30 Ways in 30 Days health initiative draws near.

Throughout April the council has organised a different physical activity each day to promote healthier living and show families how easy it can be.

About 100 people attended the Ride to Riverway yesterday, including Councillor Mark Molachino and his family.

“There was a good mix of families and young kids, and that’s what it’s all about,” he said. “It shows being active doesn’t have to be a big cost, the majority of people have a bike so it’s only a matter of pumping up the tyres, put a helmet on and have a ride.”

Cr Molachino said there were still plenty of activities coming up for people to enjoy.

“I’d encourage everyone to jump online and see what’s coming up and get involved,” he said. “It’s not complicated, this is all easy stuff that everyone can do.”

Councillor Maurie Soars said the 30 Ways campaign was a great way to kickstart a more active lifestyle.

“Council’s 30 Ways in 30 Days campaign is all about getting people active to improve their health and fitness.”
