Townsville Bulletin

It seems things are on the up

-

TOWERING cranes stacked against the city skyline are as good a sign as any that things are on the move.

Townsville residents have been told a pipeline of work is about to open with a number of game- changing projects ready to begin, yet they need to see the construction work to believe it.

Work on the new $ 250 million stadium has been progressing for some months now and there can be no doubt that project is bringing much- needed jobs to the city as well as an air of optimism, especially as the ripple effect is felt through South Townsville.

Across the creek a key CBD site has been earmarked for a $ 25 million development at Flinders St.

This project, which will be done by local company Honeycombes Property Group, will receive financial incentives from Townsville City Council under its Townsville Jobs and Investment Package, which will include concessions on rates, charges and infrastructure charges.

Honeycombes Property Group managing director Peter Honeycombe said he was keen to see more development in the CBD and he was enthusiastic about the presence of education facilities in the city.

The council will understandably be keen to see this project get under way as soon as possible to help further build confidence.

Earlier this month, the reported that two major unit projects, one for The Strand and another for Hale St in the city, were set to be approved by the council.

Prime blocks that have been vacant for years are finally being developed, which will improve the amenity for these key areas.

Seeing government projects come to fruition is one thing, but seeing a company believe and invest in the city is quite another.

Let’s hope we can bring you more good news stories like this in upcoming editions.
