Businesses can cash in at pipeline work meet

- TONY RAGGATT

BUSINESSES wanting work on the $ 215 million Haughton pipeline project are being urged to attend a Townsville City Council information session on May 4.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the session would demonstrate how potential contractors, subcontractors and suppliers could get involved in the project.

“The council has awarded the tender for the supply of pipe for the 36.5km pipeline ( to Iplex) but many more local companies – and workers – will be needed to ensure this crucial infrastructure is delivered,” Cr Hill said.

“The pipeline will need all sorts of workers including surveyors, civil engineers, truck drivers and labourers – just to name a few.

“There’s plenty of work available on the pipeline and we want to create as many jobs as possible for locals.

“Anyone with a small to medium- sized business should come along to the information session on Friday to find out how they can be a part of the project.”

The information session will be held at the Mayoral Reception Room at 103 Walker St from 9- 11am.

To register with details of who will attend, email hpdp@ townsville. qld. gov. au.

Cr Hill said the pipeline was part of the council’s threepoint water security solution which also included a recycled water system for community spaces and industrial use and a Community Water Transition Support Package.

“Council is committed to completing the pipeline by the end of next year,” Cr Hill said.

“The pipeline will provide long- term water security for Townsville and allow our city’s population and economy to continue growing into the future.”
