Port shows it’s open and responsible

-

THE Port of Townsville is to be commended for its response to finding potentially toxic substances in the groundwater.

The Port volunteered the results of its testing to the and will put details for concerned residents on its website.

Further, the Port has committed to publishing the results of follow- up reports into the issue.

The Port has committed to doing the testing and working with the relevant authorities to ensure residents have the information they need and that the issue is dealt with in the best possible way.

The approach is in stark contrast to the response at various airports across the country, where it was revealed contamination had been caused by decades- long use of toxic foam PFAS. There was a culture of dodging questions and finger- pointing rather than addressing actual concerns.

That the Port has opted for a more transparent approach to this worrying finding provides some comfort.

JT still leads the way

THE pundits who were so quick to write off Johnathan Thurston need to settle down.

After the Cowboys run of five consecutive losses, which was thankfully broken last week with a win over the Titans, the keyboard warriors were almost gleeful in their attempts to undermine the legend’s confidence saying he’d played on too long.

Given Thurston’s impeccable record and the fact he spent most of last year out with his injured shoulder, it was not only outrageous to question his ability, but when you look at the stats, just frankly wrong.

The Cowboys co- captain would be the first to admit the team hasn’t delivered so far this season. But that Thurston boasts the second number of try- assists in the NRL this season so far is testament to the fact he has so much more to give the game. Hopefully tonight he’ll help shut those critics up by leading his team to another victory.

Go Cowboys!
