The Blackhawks will host the second- placed Souths Logan Magpies at Jack Manski Oval just a week after knocking the Norths Devils off the top of the ladder with a 30- 16 home victory.

Woolf described that win over Norths as Townsville’s toughest performance of the season and he believed it should be the blueprint for the rest of their campaign.

“I think that game in particular is a real benchmark for us in terms of how we need to go forward and what standard we need to be at each week,” Woolf said.

“We have been able to blow teams away, particularly in Round 1, with just attacking really well, but we had to attack well and aim up defensively ( against Norths) and that’s why we were able to get a good win over a really good footy side.

“There’s a lot of things in there we need to replicate and a couple of things that we can improve, but it all comes back to how we approach the game and the attitude we take.” Wulguru Premier League Men Warriors Premier League Men Ingham Premier League Men Saints Premier League Men Wulguru Premier League Women Warriors Premier League Women Saints Premier League Women

The Magpies are the Queensland Cup’s best attacking side after seven rounds, scoring 27 points per game, but Woolf was confident the Blackhawks could contain them as long as they come out with a determined attitude in defence.

“You look at guys like George Fai, Patty Mago, Brendon Gibb, there’s some very good players in there that are very difficult to handle if you give them too much footy and if you don’t have a really good defensive attitude about you,” Woolf said.

“I think what we need to do first is control their middle. If we’re willing to do that then I’ve got no doubt we can be a little bit better again.”

Blackhawks centre Jordan Drew ( concussion) looks unlikely to play against Souths Logan, but five- eighth Jaelen Feeney ( illness) is expected to return in place of Sam Foster.

Woolf said Foster had been an excellent replacement against the Devils, but he thought Feeney had proved himself as an integral part of the attack with six tries in six games.

“He’s getting healthier and healthier and had a bit of a run around on Wednesday night … he certainly deserves an opportunity to come straight in,” Woolf said.
