System wrongly punishes victims of bullying

-

SCOTT Stewart, our local member, wants to tackle the issue of bullying in schools.

As a former principal, Scott knows the rules within our school system.

Fact: our children are being told they cannot defend themselves physically from bullies physically attacking them.

They must stand there and be assaulted without defending themselves or they will be suspended along with the bullies, yet you claim we all have to take responsibility to stop bullying.

So Scott, I am calling you out, you know one punch can kill.

From a parent who has had to stand with my children and bury one of their friends from bullying, my children have all been told to defend themselves until the threat stops. This is a basic human right, it’s called “flight or fight”.

Scott, if you are serious about change and stopping bullying then change the school system.

The victims are being punished and have been for way too long.

To the Owens family – be very proud of your son for defending himself and I hope you reward him on his week off. My family stand with you on this and I believe many other families do too.

So it’s time to fix this Scott, not have more meetings ( as it seems this is all the Labor Party does). You can start by allowing our children the right of selfdefence without fear of reprisal.
