Tips to spoil your mum

-

WANT to spoil Mum, or the special women in your life this Mother’s Day?

With plenty of options throughout the region, this is easy enough to do as brunches, picnics and pampering take over Townsville’s suburbs and venues on Sunday. Check out some ideas we’ve gathered to show mum just how much she means to you.

Markets

Sunday markets are a longstanding tradition for most families, and this weekend there’s plenty around. Take Mum browsing through local creative’s bestsellers at Renegade Handmade, Marian School from 8am. Sunday on Flinders is also on, and as strong as ever with live acoustics to be enjoyed by kids as mums sip on fresh coffee or juices.

Brunch

While many of Townsville hot spots are likely to be booked, residents can still take their chances at some walk in beachfront venues. Cbar on The Strand Headland does not take bookings on the weekends and the ever popular Juliette’s could also be an option. If all else fails, make it all about the coffee as the region’s vendors prepare for the families rush, putting some extra love into Mum’s chosen beverage.

Pack a picnic

Nothing says I love you like a personally packed feast on a rug, with Townsville’s perfect climate. Make the most of the dry season and spend the afternoon in the sun at parks with plenty available to entertain kids for hours. Check out The Strand park or Jezzine Barracks in North Ward, Sherriff Park in Mundingburra, Soroptimist Park at Palleranda, Sunhaven Park in Burdell, or better yet, hit the beach.

Movie time

Mums love popcorn, especially when it’s paired with some good company and a feature film. Take Mum to BCC or Event Cinemas in the City, or Warrina Arcade for an array of movie options including Life Of The Party, Mamma Mia Sing- Along or Tully.

Mother’s Day Fun Run

Keep mums active by getting into the community spirit as walkers and runners of all levels head out for the morning to raise funds for cancer. Townsville Road Runners and My FootDr podiatry will hold a 5.2km event taking off from Rossiter Park in Aitkenvale at 7.30pm. Magnetic Island will also run their Mother’s Day Classic, as participants select to tackle the 2km, 5km or 10km challenge from 8am at Alma Bay.

Shop ‘ til Mum drops

If Mum’s the kind who rarely buys for herself, now’s the time to force her out of the house and into Townsville’s major shopping centres as CastleTown, Willows and Stockland retailers showcase their favourite items from 11am to 4pm.

Spa time

Treat Mum to a facial or a pedicure at one of Townsville’s spas. From sensory skin- care experiences to the absolute detox, there’s bound to be something for every mother needing some special time out. With three locations in the region, Hands in Harmony is a good place to start and is open from 9am to 6pm.

Flowers

Always a winner, flowers bring smiles all around and make for an easy gift. Townsville’s florists are prepared for the rush and have bouquets ready for residents choose their favourite arrangements for Mum.
