Kick puts officer in hospital
A TOWNSVILLE cop has received serious head and facial injuries after being kicked in the head while investigating a routine noise complaint.
Senior police in town have slammed the attack, during which the Senior Constable was kicked in the head while on the ground as he was involved in a struggle with another person.
The attack, which blindsided the officer, saw him transported to Townsville Hospital with a broken nose, fractured cheek and a cut above his eye, as well as severe swelling.
The attack took place at a Karanya St, Mount Louisa home about 8.30am yesterday.
Police were attending the third noise complaint after a party went through the night. Soon after they arrived the crowd became aggressive and extra police units were called.
As one man was being arrested for public nuisance and obstructing police he and the Senior Constable ended up in a wrestle on the ground.
The man alleged to have kicked the policeman, a 30year- old Palm Islander, moved in from out of the officer’s sight and kicked him in the head.
He was later found at a Kirwan home and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.
Townsville police Chief Superintendent Kev Guteridge slammed the attack.
“It’s unacceptable that the officer has been assaulted,” Chief Supt Guteridge said.
The man was denied police bail and will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today.
