‘ Dad just dropped’ after hit by son, court hears

WITNESSES in a grievous bodily harm trial have spoken of the moment a man fell backward after allegedly being punched by his son.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is on trial in the Townsville District Court charged with doing grievous bodily harm to his father.

The half- sister of the accused told the court her half- brother had thrown a beer bottle in her father’s direction during an argument on December 11, 2015 in Heatley.

“He was walking towards Dad but Dad was moving back,” she said.

“He hit Dad on the face and he fell back on his bum.” The woman said her father got back up but her half- brother hit him again and “Dad just dropped”.

Witness Simone Butcher, who was staying with relatives in Boyes Court at the time, told the court she didn’t know either the defendant or the complainan­t but was outside on the night of December 11, 2015 and saw a fight between two men.

Ms Butcher said she saw one man hit the other.

Defence barrister Edward Bassett, cross- examining a witness, suggested that the father was throwing punches and “dancing around like he was getting ready to fight, to box”.

The woman confirmed that he “took a swing at ( his son)”.

The trial continues.
