TOWNSVILLE City Council has added new skip bins to the Toomulla and Bluewater tips to recycle items such as white goods, metals, electronic waste and fluorescent tubes.

Division 1 Councillor Margie Ryder said residents will no longer have to travel to dumps at Stuart or Hervey Range to recycle their unwanted white goods or get rid of electronic waste. The Uber Eats delivery app will go live in the city at 10am today with more than 20 popular restaurants already on board and more to come.

Uber’s delivery area covers most of central Townsville, from Garbutt to South Townsville west to Mundingburra and Aitkenvale. It is expected to expand soon.

Uber Eats Queensland manager Anjuli Steffen said Uber Eats was keen to hear from more local restaurants interested in working with the popular delivery service.

“We’ve been incredibly pleased with how residents across Queensland have embraced Uber Eats as a new way to get the food they love,” she said.

“The uptake for Uber has been strong in Townsville so we are confident our Uber Eats offering will also be well received.”

The Townsville Brewery was quick to jump on board, with the Uber Eats menu set to include a selection of burgers, pizzas, salads, platters, and Chef’s Favourites including Cobb loaf, chicken wings, ribs and more.

Townsville Brewery sales and marketing manager Emily Young said trials of the delivery service had gone off without a hitch.

“We’ve got our tablets ready to go, so as soon as we see the first order come through, we’ll be ready,” she said.

Ms Young said while she was expecting a strong response to Uber Eats in Townsville, locals would still go to the region’s restaurants.

“People still like to socialise in public and the Brewery is very lucky because we do have such a good ambience, but sometimes you do just want to stay home,” she said.

Otto’s Hen Haus was also keen to join Uber Eats, and will offer a selection of fried chicken and whole charcoal chooks for delivery.

Chef Julie Tatnell said Uber Eats had opened doors for the business to deliver customer favourites.

To celebrate the launch, Uber Eats is offering $ 10 off the first order for all new Uber Eats customers.
