Hot tip is cold snap fading fast
PACK up the beanies, coats and scarfs Townsville: the region’s brief cold snap has all but ended, with temperatures picking back up for the rest of the week.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Townsville dipped to a low of only 13.1C yesterday, a whole 1C above the forecast minimum, with a top of 27.2C.
Minimum temperatures for the rest of the week are forecast to rise back up to the high teens, between 17C and 19C through to the weekend.
Forecasted maximum temperatures are hovering almost exactly on the May average of 28C, reaching between 27C and 29C for the rest of the week.
The Bureau has advised a strong wind warning is in place today for the Townsville coast, with winds south- easterly 15 to 20 knots, increasing to 20 to 25 knots in the afternoon and reaching up to 30 knots into the evening.
A possible shower has been forecast for today and tomorrow, however a spokesman for the Bureau of Meteorology said any rainfall was likely to remain off Townsville’s coastline.
Charters Towers has been forecast to reach a brisk low of 10C today, however other inland areas of the region including the Burdekin and Ingham were forecast to reach only 15C and 16C respectively.
Townsville hit its lowest temperature of the month on Monday of 10.6C.
