Car on fire was stolen in south

- CHRIS LEES

A CAR found on fire in Annandale yesterday morning was stolen from Brisbane.

Police responded to the fire at Mayneside Circuit about 3am yesterday.

Acting Inspector Jason Shepherd said after firefighters put out the fire in the blue 2015 Subaru WRX, police realised the numberplates were homemade.

“It turned out the vehicle had actually been seen by police about 20 minutes before driving erratically in the Douglas area,” he said.

“The police didn’t pursue it as there was no information to say it was stolen.”

No one has been charged over the incident and police are looking for information.

“We are really relying on either forensic evidence at the house from where the car was stolen, the car itself or any other witnesses or information that comes forward,” acting Insp Shepherd said.

Police and firefighters also responded to a car fire in Home Hill about 10pm on Sunday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the car fire was at a home on Kirknie Rd.

“Our crews arrived and the car was then extinguished,” she said.

“They took down details and handed the scene to the police.”

The spokeswoman said there was no threat to property or people during the car fire.
