Community encouraged to attend meetings in the suburbs

- TONY RAGGATT

TOWNSVILLE City Council will begin holding Community Council meetings in the suburbs, making it easier for residents to ask questions and stay informed about what is happening in their area.

Mayor Jenny Hill said moving meetings into the suburbs was part of an Open Council initiative and would allow residents to more easily provide feedback and raise questions directly with the council.

“This program is about getting out into the community and listening to residents,” Cr Hill said.

“I’d encourage community members to participate in Community Council sessions as your input into what we do at council is essential to our decision- making process.”

Council representatives to attend the meetings will include the Mayor, committee chairs, the divisional councillor, the CEO and council directors.

Cr Hill said people would be invited to ask questions or request information on a specific issue.

“There will also be opportunity for attendees to meet with committee chairs and councillors to discuss council projects and business,” Cr Hill said.

The first Community Council will be held at the Clubhouse on the Green at North Shore on July 18.

The details of further Community Council sessions will be made public in coming weeks.
