Bulls out to tramp over Uni

- TRENT SLATTER

CHARTERS Towers coach Len Knuth has lauded his team’s confidence this season as they prepare to take on TDRU newcomers University at Mike Carney Toyota Park tonight.

The Bulls have the chance to equal last season’s tally of three wins tonight, which would be a nice boost heading into an extended break, with next weekend’s Queensland Country Championships before a round bye.

Knuth admitted player availability will be tricky with the Friday night game in Townsville, but he said the Bulls had much more belief that they could win games this season.

“Last year we were in a mindset that we just wanted to compete well and test the water and see how we go, but this year we’re actually concentrating on winning games,” Knuth said.

“It’s a total different mindset. The boys know what they need to do now on the training field and on the paddock, what level they have to play at, and they’ve risen to it really well.”

University are still searching for their first win since returning to the top grade this season, but Knuth said the Bulls know not to underestimate their opponents after being in the same position last year.

“It’s their first year in Agrade and they’re just probably coming to terms with the speed of the game and the fitness level required,” he said.

TDRU, Round 9: Tonight: Charters Towers v JCU at Mike Carney Toyota Park, 7.50pm. Tomorrow: Brothers v North Ward at Ignatius Park College, 5pm; Teachers West v Burdekin at Warrina Park, 5.40pm.
