RIDERS SADDLE UP FOR DOLLY

- KELSIE IORIO

A NASTY fall during the last race of the day at Townsville Turf Club will be examined during an inquiry set down once the three jockeys involved have recovered.

The fall occurred during Race 7 on Thursday afternoon at Cluden Park.

The three jockeys involved were all hospitalised as a result.

Les Tilley suffered a broken nose and a cut to his head, while Ashley Butler would have surgery on his broken wrist when he returned to Rockhampton on Monday.

Chelsea Jokic suffered a fractured fibula and some bruising to her pelvic area.

Townsville Turf Club head steward Paul Gillard said Butler and Tilley had been released from hospital.

“Unfortunately it’s a part of racing that everyone’s aware of and these accidents can happen,” he said. A CAR seen coasting across a road with the driver’s door open alerted police to an earlymorning crime.

A 17- year- old boy was arrested and will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act after police spotted a stolen, white Skoda moving from the middle of a road, on to a gutter and mount the kerb.

The teen alleged to have been responsible bailed from the moving car about 2.30am yesterday and took off towards Campbell St, Hermit Park. Police chased and caught him soon after. WHEN the news broke that teenager Amy “Dolly” Everett took her own life, regional communities grappled with the loss of one of their own.

The Alligator Creek Pony Club have taken their grief and turned it into a positive, with the first “Do it for Dolly” Open Sporting Day to be held this weekend.

Club president Donna Thorogood said the club wanted to create a safe, supportive and friendly environment.

“A lot of our members were really affected by the death of Dolly and were searching for ways to deal with her loss,” she said.

“There is a lot to be said about the ‘ weird horsey kid’ and the stigma that can go along with this.”

Alligator Creek Pony Club will donate $ 5 from every nomination to the Dolly’s Dream Foundation and encourages all riders to dress in blue.

The Do It For Dolly Open Sporting Day will begin at 9am tomorrow with riders encouraged to arrive early for group photos.

Non- members can ride on the day and spectators are all welcome.
