Alleged school flasher nabbed

- CHRIS LEES

A MAN who allegedly exposed himself near a Townsville school has been arrested.

The incident happened about 8.30am yesterday at St Clare’s Catholic School in Burdell.

Townsville Child Protection Investigation Unit detective Senior Sergeant Dave Miles said the man was not on school grounds when the al- leged exposure happened. “But we have a situation where it would be ludicrous to suggest there wouldn’t normally be children in that location,” he said.

“His ( alleged) actions were designed to offend individuals in the area.”

The man charged was a 36year- old.

Members of the public raised the alarm and phoned police when the man was seen allegedly exposing near the school.

“They assisted us in identifying and having him arrested,” Sen- Sgt Miles said. The man is not allowed near the school grounds until his court appearance next month.

Sen- Sgt Miles said it was a disgusting act but thankfully no students had seen the man allegedly expose himself.

The charge comes after a man approached a Kirwan himself State School Year 5 girl in his car allegedly completely naked on May 9.

Sen- Sgt Miles said the offences were different in nature but police would investigate if there was any connection between the two.

The 36- year- old is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on June 14.

The school and the Catholic Diocese of Townsville were contacted for comment.
