Hunter stalking a world title at 10

- KEAGAN ELDER

YOUNG Hunter Boschen will join 102 Australian BMX riders chasing glory on the world stage at the UCI BMX World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Despite being just 10 years old, the Townsville rider has already had a taste of competing at the highest level when he rode in last year’s world championships in America.

This year the national DK team rider hopes to claim a spot in the finals. “I have a chance of making the semi- finals,” Hunter said. “I’ll be riding against 52 riders. “We leave Friday, I’m really excited for worlds.

“I have been training very hard at my local club in Townsville.”

After just a year racing, Hunter set himself up with big ambitions of racing on the world stage.

“I just achieved my dream, it’s been my dream since I was six,” he said.

Hunter will next week race in the boys under- 12 cruiser division and 10 boys 20- inch worlds challenge.

Hunter’s father Matthew said the rising star started racing BMX aged five after a come- and- try day at the local club.

Matthew said Hunter qualified for the world titles after he competed in the Australian titles, despite poor preparation.

“We had a very poor start to the BMX season here in North Queensland with all the heavy rain,” Matthew said. “We haven’t actually raced in North Queensland for five months.”
