Injury not a worry for Hunt

-

NEW Queensland halfback Ben Hunt insists he is not in danger of missing Origin I despite being one of four Maroons to sit out training last night.

The Maroons’ Game One preparations have had a turbulent start with Hunt ( thigh), Josh McGuire ( ankle), Michael Morgan ( stomach) and Billy Slater ( hamstring) failing to take part in Queensland’s first session of the series.

The Maroons trained at Brisbane’s new Red Hill headquarters yesterday, giving former Broncos playmaker Hunt a close- up view of the club’s opulent $ 27 million training facility.

But Hunt’s contribution was restricted to spectator status, his right thigh encased in strapping as the Maroons were left with only 13 players to launch their Origin I build- up.

Hunt suffered a corked thigh in last Saturday night’s 28- 2 loss to the Panthers, but is adamant he will wear the Queensland No. 7 jumper at the MCG next Wednesday night.

“It’s all good,” Hunt said. “I had some physio on it ( on Monday) night and we have been compressing it – it feels a lot better.

“I will look to start training ( tomorrow) and see how it goes there. It should be better again ( today). I’m confident I will be right to go.”

A highlight of the session was a goalkicking shootout between Dane Gagai and Valentine Holmes under the watchful eye of Queensland’s coaching staff.

Holmes was more accurate, barely missing as he landed a series of sideline conversions.
