ONE- DAY WONDER

- CHRISTIE ANDERSON christie. anderson@ news. com. au

POLICE have searched a Townsville home to look for drugs.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said a 21- year- old Jensen man had been issued with a notice to appear in court after the raid of a Macquarie St house in Jensen on Thursday.

Police will allege they found cannabis and what they believe is lysergic acid diethylamide, also known as acid or LSD.

The officers from Deeragun police will also allege a drug utensil and items used in the commission of a crime were found. It’s alleged police found a torch that doubles as a device used to electrically stun and incapacitate a person.

The house raided by police is in the northern suburbs of Townsville, near Colonial Park and St Anthony’s Catholic College. The man is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on June 27. A TOWNSVILLE house has sold for a cool $ 1 million after being on the market for less than 24 hours.

Janice Gallagher from Janice Gallagher Real Estate sold 4 Stirling Drive, Castle Hill, the same day she listed it for sale.

The five- bedroom, threebathroom home has panoramic views of Cleveland Bay.

Ms Gallagher said she came across a buyer while selling other listings who quickly fell in love with 4 Stirling Drive.

“A local bought it, someone I had been dealing with previously so it was listed and sold on the same day,” she said.

“They are a couple whose children have left home and they were looking for their forever house.

“They wanted a great view, a yard and they wanted a pool for the grandkids.”

The house is perched on an elevated 860sq m block in Townsville’s most exclusive suburb.

The two- storey house has multiple living areas with the main living area overlooking the inground swimming pool and barbecue area.

There is also a media room, study and sauna.

The huge deck overlooks the ocean while there is also a private garden.

Ms Gallagher said it was too soon to say if the market was turning but the quick sale was a positive sign.

“There are a couple of buy- ers around waiting for suitable properties to come on to the market,” she said. “It’s just finding the right fit and having properties that fit those buyers’ wants and needs.”

Castle Hill is Townsville’s most expensive suburb with the median house price sitting at $ 955,000 compared to the Townsville- wide median price of $ 335,000, according to CoreLogic.

It has also enjoyed price growth in recent years with the median price rising 15.8 per cent in the past 12 months, however, prices have declined in the last 10 years by 1.9 per cent.

Many of the homes in the small suburb have ocean views and it has become a popular suburb for business people and medical professionals.

The median household weekly income is $ 2954 and more than 40 per cent of the suburb’s 940 residents are over the age of 50.
