Colquhoun in for United’s vital clash

- JON TUXWORTH

NEW Zealand recruit Cade Colquhoun will finally debut for North Queensland United as their bid to stave off relegation continues against Western Pride at Ipswich tonight.

The attacking player has been ineligible to play in the National Premier League thus far due to visa restrictions, and has been biding his time with local outfit MA Olympic.

But with United just two points out of the relegation zone, Colquhoun will be thrown in against second- placed Pride, who belted them 6- 1 in Townsville in round three.

“He played us in the FFA Cup and put together a good performance,” NQU coach Michael Brooks said.

“I knew what he was capable of, but he showed in that game he can step up to NPL level.”

Skipper Corey Waples and Robin Edwards will also return after missing last week’s 3- 1 loss to Mackay where NQU had 24 shots to Mackay’s 10 but rued their finishing.

They won’t have to contend with lethal striker Dylan Wenzell- Halls, who bagged a hat- trick in their last meeting.

“That was our first real test of the year and if we learned anything from that, the Brisbane teams in particular are on a different level if you’re not matching them with intensity and desire,” NQU coach Michael Brooks said.

NPL round 16: Western Pride v NQU at Ipswich, 7pm tonight.

Townsville Premier League ( all games 7pm tonight): Saints v Wulgura at Aitkenvale, MA Olympic v Burdekin at Burt St, Brothers v Rebels at Hi Vista Park, Warriors v Ingham at Melrose Park.
