HERE COMES HERCULES

- DANNI SHAFIK

THE star of 1990s TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys is adding a dose of celebrity to this weekend’s MagnetiCon in Townsville.

HERCULES has come to Townsville and warned residents: “You better come to MagnetiCon.”

TV star Kevin Sorbo will join thousands of comic book, sci- fi, anime and movie lovers today and tomorrow at Townsville Stadium for the region’s third MagnetiCon, with over 3000 fans expected.

Sorbo hit international stardom after taking the lead role in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys from 1993- 1999, which became the most watched TV show in the world, airing in 176 countries.

Visiting Townsville for the first time with sons Braeden, 16 and Shane, 14, Sorbo said he loved getting out to the various ComicCon events held around the world.

“I know MagnetiCon is only in its third year, but it’s been growing quite a bit and been doubling and will double again this year,” he said.

“I think it’s the distance factor.

“Fans appreciate you come all this way for a con from an American TV show.

“I think people realise we don’t get down here that often, and if they are fans they will take advantage and come and see it.”

The star has planned his visit in the North, with golf, koalas and Magnetic Island on the schedule, as well as an evening event at the Metropole tonight.

MagnetiCon includes special guest stars, cosplayers, celebrities and comic book artists, and is being held today and tomorrow.
