Anning called on wall

-

MY father, Jim Murray, is 87 and a born and bred North Queenslander who will always have something to say, and more often than not a little bit of history to impart, following events such as the loss of the Victoria Park Hotel.

Apparently in the late 40s and early 50s there were at least ALLOW me to respond to the comments raised by Katter Party’s newly minted senator Fraser Anning ( TB, June 6).

It would seem Senator Anning has “Katterpulted” on to that Akubrad political horse called self- interest, joining up with Katter’s KAP. The deconstruction of Senator Anning’s letter has some merit, notwithstanding the authenticity poser that comes with the demurrage of the Katter “no outcomes” brand. I welcome the Burdekin Falls Dam wall elevation, but only if it is 14.6m as set out in the real Stage 2 when 20 railwaymen lodging in the hotel and, of course, in the days of steam and shovelling coal there could be trouble if they were not fed well. At this time the place had a great reputation for beer battered fish. Dad was told each piece was large and constituted a bloody good feed.

What no one but the we had politicians of conviction like the peerless Eamon Ted Lindsay who selflessly promoted the greater good rather than promoting themselves like certain high- profile, do- nothing colourful politicians in our north.

On May 23, Mr Anning’s leader of KAP, Bob Katter, was at it again slagging the Burdekin Falls Dam wall elevation as a stupid LNP idea that would create only 20 jobs as opposed to 20,000 jobs at Hells Gate. No mention was made of his union mates in the ALP at state level who support the same 2m wall elevation as the LNP and a 50m publican and his inner circle knew was that all the fish was sourced from one place, supplied by one very quiet aged pensioner who also lived at the hotel. It was all catfish and it all came from Ross River. No bull, he reckons. PHILLIP N. MURRAY,

Currajong. hydro power scheme, which, working only a third of the time, won’t spin a mouse wheel.

Mr Anning, does Bob Katter support your Burdekin Falls Dam wall elevation of 14.6m? Or, mischievously, does he still eye off his preferred Hells Gate dam?

On Tully Millstream, Bob Katter has removed his longstanding support while Shane Knuth/ Robbie Katter moved a successful motion in State Parliament supporting it.

Where do you stand on this Senator Anning? PETER J. SMITH,

Rosslea.
