GAMING PRESSING PAUSE ON E3
been another hectic week of E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, where the biggest names in video games steps up to showcase so many games I couldn’t possibly begin to detail everything in a single column.
Every year companies like EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Bethesda, Nintendo, Sony and Square Enix release a deluge of information of upcoming releases.
All other times of the year is likened to a gradual drip- feed of gaming information compared to the smorgasbord buffet that is E3. But I’m bloated and full after so many helpings. I’ve taken a break from the conferences being broadcast live over a vast range of personal devices and platforms because I’m still playing stuff from last year, and enjoying myself. It’s hard to avoid every piece of news, but I hear there are sequels coming out for games I haven’t even finished yet.
I couldn’t possibly play another game so soon, surely, but the hype builds, and the concept of throwaway products rears its ugly head.
Like every industry, it is not profitable that you enjoy a product for years. You must upgrade your PC, buy the new model car, and I start to feel the same irritation I get when a patronising little girl pushes her brand of life insurance in my face every 10 minutes. Suncorp stop, I heard you!
It certainly pays to turn off occasionally. Besides, most of these games will be on sale next year, and that suits me fine to go my own pace.
