Don’t be all at sea with your boat servicing

THE weather has been sensational for boating and fishing in the past week. We have heard of great times on the water with good catches of quality fish, excellent conditions for spearos with great visibility. It’s always great to hear wonderful stories about fishing and mateship that will last a lifetime. I have seen kids become great mates with their Mums and Dads and siblings after hearing of the best family fishing stories. The weather makes a huge difference!

There have also been the unfortunately all- too- common stories of people breaking down at sea due to lack of maintenance or just old gear giving up. The most annoying part is the weather is awesome for fishing and here you are, all the gear, bait and mates with no vroom. It ruins it for everyone.

If you have a reasonably new rig, make sure you look after it. Get it out of the shed, run it up, make sure everything works before you go to the ramp. If it’s an older model, get it serviced regularly by a reputable dealership. Avoid “cheap” back yarders. There are a couple of good mobile blokes around, but they aren’t cheap. Quality workmanship may cost a bit more, but it’s worth it.

Outboards don’t last forever and if yours is a bit tired or more than seven years old, it might be time to think about a new one.
