Players keen for a shot at redemption

-

WATCHING last weekend’s game against Parramatta just made me want to get back out and play again to try to help the team improve quickly.

It’s been spoken a lot about how badly we played as a team and I think the review was a bit painful for a few boys, but when you play poorly the best thing that can happen is having a short turnaround.

You have an opportunity to get straight back into it and try to make up for what went wrong the week before so that’s the way we’ve taken it.

I was given the choice to sit out training on Tuesday after coming back from State of Origin, but being that I didn’t play against the Eels and the way we’re going as a team, I was desperately keen to get back out there.

We haven’t been in this position as a club for a very long time so for a lot of the players it is a very new situation.

As a team we’re the only ones who can get ourselves out of it now so the more time we have training together as a full team the better it is.

I think that’s the mindset everyone has had looking towards the next game to try and make up for it.

Because it’s a shorter week we’ve only had the two main sessions, but both were very good and now’s the time to translate that onto the field.

We haven’t looked too much into the Warriors and what they may throw at us because when you’re going badly as a team you have to look more at yourselves and the way you’re playing.

The main things that we’ve spoken about are our kick chase because their back five are massive so we need to be focused and also our completions.

We saw how bad our completion rate was last week and you give yourselves no chance against any team when you’re completing under 50 per cent.

Against the Warriors it’s going to have to be a lot better so it’s about getting our own back yard sorted and making sure we know what we’re doing.

It’s an early kick- off tonight, but hopefully everyone can make a bit of a longer weekend of it and get out there and support us because we really need it.

We probably haven’t given the crowd too much to cheer about at times, but just having them there makes a huge difference.

The feeling when you run on at home is very special and you certainly do get a massive lift from it when there’s a big, parochial crowd there.

We need to make sure this is the week we turn things around, as we’re running out of chances.
