Music world’s day of global harmony

- OLIVIA GRACE- CURRAN

MUSIC from around the globe will be available to all ears in Townsville this weekend.

Alliance Française de Townsville president Nathalie Grant said World Music Day would bring all different people and music together.

“It’s about making music attainable to everyone and enjoyable for everyone,” Ms Grant said.

It is the third consecutive year Townsville has held the event.

“World Music Day started in Paris in 1982 and it has evolved into a worldwide event,” she said.

“All the cultures are going to be promoted through local Townsvillians.”

Ms Grant said it was an opportunity for people to try new things and discover different music.

“We live in a global society where we can trade and communicate with people from everywhere,” she said.

“This is just a little taste of what is possible outside Townsville.”

Local performers will join singers from France and the UK for the free event today.

“The majority of people performing are in community groups who are open to getting more members to join,” Ms Grant said

“Not only will people see professionals but they can see and support upcoming performers — they’re the ones who are going to be future performers in Townsville and Australia.”

World Music Day will be held at Pimlico State High Performing Arts Centre on Fulham Road from 12pm- 4pm.

“It’s people from different cultures and backgrounds coming together to have a great time,” Ms Grant said.
