Mates4mates get ready to rumba

- TESS IKONOMOU

TOWNSVILLE locals are being urged to pull out their most glamorous frocks for a fundraising charity ball supporting the Defence community.

Latin Vibrations will host the Hollywood themed event on June 23 at the Grand Ballroom at The Ville Resort to raise money for Mates4mates, an organisation supporting current and ex- serving Australian Defence Force personnel.

The ball will include a red carpet and live performances.

Latin Vibrations owner and director Jodie CoeyBraddon said the decision to support Mates4mates was a joint one made by herself, dance instructors and dancers, many of whom have spouses or partners in defence.

“It’s an amazing facility they have in Townsville supporting serving and ex- serving members,” she said.

“It seemed like the perfect match in a way that would directly affect our women’s spouses in terms of them being part of that community.

“For me it’s about seeing the impact it’s having, we will all be really proud of making a difference to Mates4Mates.”

Ms Coey- Braddon hoped the charity ball would make a substantial difference for the organisation.

“At the end of the day I want to raise an amount that really makes a difference … that’s what makes it so meaningful,” she said.

“I did get a message from a serving woman saying she couldn’t be there because of Exercise Hamel, but how much it meant to her that we were shining a light on the issue and organisation.

“I hope the Townsville community will rally behind them.”
