AN ECONOMICAL LESSON
TOWNSVILLE Grammar School students were the beneficiaries of some valuable lessons when Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Curtis Pitt, addressed an assembly of a different kind on May 25.
The Member for Mulgrave visited the school to speak to senior students of economics on the subject of macroeconomics.
Prior to being speaker, Mr Pitt held the portfolio of treasurer and minister for trade and investment in 2017 and was also treasurer in 2015 – positions that equip him as a highly experienced speaker for our students to interrogate.
Principal Tim Kelly said the students genuinely enjoyed the experience of having guest speakers who could address them regarding the real life application of the various micro- economic and macroeconomic theories they had learnt in class.
“Economics is a broad subject which can open many career pathways to our students,” Mr Kelly said.
“While they may not all be destined to a life in politics, Mr Pitt was certainly able to discuss the role that economics played in our political landscape and policy development.
“We were very excited to have him speak at our school,” Mr Kelly said.
In his working life before entering politics, Mr Pitt held a wide variety of positions, including working with the Department of State Development for a number of years. Mr Pitt’s father, Warren Pitt, served as a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for nearly 20 years.
Clearly the family dedication to a career in Parliament has been handed down to Curtis.
