WINTER WE ATHER SET TO BITE

- KEAGAN ELDER REPORTS:

IT’S time to rug up because the temperature is getting colder in Townsville.

Minimum temperatures are set to drop 7C below our June average.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jim Richardson said the mercury would fall to 9C today and a chilly 8C tomorrow.

But the cooler weather didn’t stop two- year- old Adaline Cook from enjoying ice cream on The Strand yesterday.

TOWNSVILLE, rug up now. It’s about to get very cold.

Minimum temperatures are set to plummet 7C below our June average.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jim Richardson said the mercury would drop to a chilly 9C today and a shivery 8C tomorrow.

“The average minimum for June is 15C. It is a few degrees definitely below average,” Mr Richardson said.

“What we’ve got is a very cold, very dry air mass moving from the south.”

But spare a thought for those living south of us.

Mr Richardson said the southerly cold front chilled most of Queensland’s southeast and got down to a record low south of the Gold Coast yesterday.

“In Coolangatta it was 0.6C, the lowest June morning on record,” he said.

Mr Richardson said onshore winds would make our apparent temperatures feel even colder.

“Onshore winds on Wednesday will cool things down,” he said.

From tomorrow, temperatures should warm up.

Mr Richardson said minimum temperatures at the weekend should increase to our June average.
