STAFF at Townsville’s best- dressed business could be zooming off to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Supercars in style.

In preparation for this year’s WATPAC Townsville 400, Townsville City Council is giving away three- day trackside passes with major perks to the city’s most passionate business.

Mayor Jenny Hill said the competition was a great opportunity for local businesses to show their support for the biggest event in North Queensland. “This year particularly, because it’s the 10th anniversary, we’d really like to see the community get up and get behind the V8s,” Cr Hill said.

The winning business will receive three- day trackside passes including Paddock access and Grid Walk Experiences for four people, valued at more than $ 2500.

The prize also includes concert access to performances by legendary Australian musicians including John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite, Hoodoo Gurus and Baby Animals.

“Council has packs available including bunting, posters, flags and balloons, but businesses are encouraged to add their own touches to really make an impact,” Cr Hill said.

“Get behind your favourite type of vehicle and support the V8s.”

Chamber of Commerce president Debbie Rains said hosting a sporting event of this calibre was a boost for the Townsville economy.

“It encourages people to come and shop locally, support our CBD and keep spreading the money around locally,” Ms Rains said.

“If we don’t use and support these events, there are always possibilities to lose them.”

Born Wild owner Kymbo Westcott said he was keen to support an event that brought so much life into the city.

“It’s a great event for Townsville and we’re going to celebrate it here by getting into the spirit of things and getting revhead ready,” Mr Westcott said.

Cr Hill, Townsville Bulletin editor Jenna Cairney and Townsville Chamber of Commerce president Debbie Rains will select the winning contestants.

Local businesses have until July 2 to deck out their shopfronts for the chance to win.

Businesses can find out more about the competition by visiting the council’s website.
