SWEET DEAL FOR ORIGIN RIVALS

- OLIVIA GRACE- CURRAN

FOOTY supporters are getting into the State of Origin spirit across Townsville in preparation for game two of the annual interstate rivalry.

Laura Dawson from Cute As A Cupcake has been busy baking team treats for Blues and Maroons fans.

She said the Origin series was always significant in the sporting calendar but a Sunday match allowed families and friends to really make a day of it.

“North Queenslanders always seem to really get into it and enjoy the festivities – healthy competition never hurt anyone,” Ms Dawson said.

“I think they’re very passionate about footy up here, especially having the Cowboys as the local team.”

Cute As A Cupcake will be selling Origin inspired cupcakes at their Charters Towers Road store between 10am and 2pm on Saturday.

“People can head in on Saturday and pick up a box of their favourite team’s colour,” Ms Dawson said.

“It’s good to do something a bit different from your pizza and beer.”

With her birthday falling on game day, Ms Dawson will celebrate with a mixed box of blue and maroon cupcakes.

“Originally, I’m from NSW, I’ve been up here in North Queensland for eight years and I’m still on the fence,” she said.

Townsville City Council invites locals to watch Game Two on the big screen at Riverway Oval.

The free family- friendly event will include food trucks, drink vendors and pre- game festivities.

Venues hosting Origin events across the city include The Ville, The Brewery, Flynns Irish Bar, Irish Finnegan’s, Dalrymple Hotel, TapHouse Townsville, Upper Ross Hotel and The Vale Hotel.
