Board members meet in city Super fund looks north
THE Townsville Airport is one of many investments Sunsuper has made in the city.
And they are always looking for more.
Chair Andrew Fraser said the superannuation company had invested significantly in Townsville.
“We invest in a diverse range of things from the Townsville Airport, to Stockies, to the new aged care facility being built out at Douglas,” Mr Fraser said.
“We have significant investments in both economic and social infrastructure and we do that in order to make a return for the members across the fund.”
The former Queensland Deputy Premier said Sunsuper was always looking at more opportunities to invest in places like Townsville.
“Beyond the four corners of Townsville, our investment across the broader region include things like investments in the Mackay, Cairns and Mount Isa airports and also in the Discovery Park facilities,” Mr Fraser said.
“We invest widely and we are always looking for strong investments that have a strong profile of returns.”
On Thursday the superannuation company held a board meeting in Townsville for the first time since 2006.
“We’re taking the opportunity to engage with the Townsville community, stakeholders and other groups,” Mr Fraser said.
“As a Queensland fund originally, and now with a national footprint, it’s important for us to not just meet in the Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne triangle.”
Mr Fraser said Sunsuper had about 40,000 members in Townsville, which showed how important the city was for them.
“I became chair at the start of the year and one of the things I was very insistent on, was making sure that we get kicked out of the corner of Australia that too much happens in,” he said.
“I actually grew up in Proserpine and went to school there and one of our other directors grew up in Ingham.
“So Townsville was an early winner as the pick for a place for a regional board meeting.”
