You can bet $ 100m tax will nobble racing industry

-

RACING in Queensland has been struggling for years, but I fear Annastacia Palaszczuk’s $ 100 million betting tax will cripple the industry for good.

Racing supports thousands of jobs across the state and brings communities together, especially in country Queensland.

Before the election, only six months ago, Labor said its new tax would raise $ 30 million a year.

It was only during the State Budget this month that Labor finally admitted its new tax would, in reality, rip $ 100 million every year out of Queensland racing.

This money will go straight into the Palaszczuk Government’s coffers – not back to the racing industry.

Labor’s massive tax grab and brainless.

The new tax of 15 per cent is far more is blatant than punters pay in New South Wales and Victoria. Those states are already far ahead of Queensland when it comes to prizemoney and infrastructure and that gap will now get even wider.

The Palaszczuk Government seems to think the racing industry is just rolling in cash.

That only shows how out of touch and arrogant Labor has become.

They have failed racing for years and now they are planning to tax it out of existence.

I promise those working in the industry and those who passionately follow racing that I will fight Annastacia Palaszczuk’s new tax.

Labor needs to go back to the drawing board before it rips the heart out of racing. DEB FRECKLINGTON, Liberal National Party Leader.

?? RUNNING INTO TROUBLE: The Palaszczuk Government’s new tax is destined to rustle up $ 100 million for state coffers at the expense of Queensland’s racing industry. ??
