Uni look to fight back after rout

- JON TUXWORTH

UNIVERSITY coach Shane Jurgens jokes the only way is up as they look to bounce back from a huge loss in their last meeting with Thuringowa at Castle Hill PCYC this afternoon.

The second- placed Bulldogs hammered third- placed University by 112 points five weeks ago, but Jurgens is confident it won’t be long before the gap is reduced.

“You go through these cycles. We’ve worked very hard on juniors over the last 10 years so that will start to come to fruition,” Jurgens said.

“We’re a sport that’s a minority compared to rugby league and soccer in north Queensland, but there’s a lot of young kids who want to play the game.

“The ( Hermit Park) Tigers beat them ( Thuringowa) last week, but I don’t read too much into that.

“They’ve got a great depth of young guys coming through the club. I do see them as the yardstick and we have to be on top of our game.”

In today’s other clash, ladder leaders Hermit Park will be expecting to improve their record to nine wins from 10 games against Northern Beaches Suns.

Both games begin at 3pm. supported by Rapid Legal Solutions Sat June 23 Sat June 23 Sat June 23 Sat June 23 Sat June 23 Sat June 23 Sat June 23 7.00PM 7.00PM 7.00PM 7.00PM 3.00PM 3.00PM 3.00PM Ingham Saints Warriors Wulguru Saints Warriors Wulguru V V V V V V V MA Olympic Rebels Burdekin Brothers Rebel Burdekin Brother Augie Pane Field 1 Aitkenvale Park Melrose Park Wulguru Park Aitkenvale Park Melrose Park Wulguru Park
