From Thrones to aisle

-

THANKFULLY it was no Red Wedding when Game Of Thrones star Kit Harington swapped his trademark snow for confetti as he wed wildling co- star Rose Leslie in a lush northern Scotland location which could have fitted in with the Stark family’s digs at Winterfell.

The couple – who played wildling Ygritte and King of the North Jon Snow in HBO’s blockbuster fantasy – were cheered on by co- stars after their ceremony at the Rayne Church, close to the country estate in Aberdeenshire owned by Leslie’s family.

Earlier, fans gathered outside the church had yelled and cheered when familiar faces from the fictional houses of Stark, Targaryen and Lannister arrived.

Sophie Turner, who plays Harington’s on- screen half- sister, Sansa Stark, looked striking in a short red dress and knee- high black boots. In contrast Maisie Williams, who plays her vengeful sister Arya, adopted a more bookish look in a black bodycon dress and red heels.

Emilia Clarke, who plays Snow’s current love interest and central character Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, opted for a baby pink coat and pink dress.

Scene- stealer Peter Dinklage, who plays much- loved royal strategist Tyrion Lannister, also acknowledged the wild cheers of the crowd of fans.

The service even had faintly aristocratic touch thanks to the bride, whose full name is Rose Eleanor Arbuthnot- Leslie, being a descendant of Charles II and her family’s ownership of the Wardhill Castle in Aberdeenshire, where the reception took place.

Leslie, 31, a former handmaid in Downton Abbey, is now starring in the US legal drama The Good Fight.

Harington, 31, normally known for his character’s broody visage, was instead beaming as he left the church hand- in- hand with his happy bride, whom he met on the show in 2012.

The pair walked under three hand- crafted wooden arches draped in vines, before embracing their friends and family.

Their doomed on- screen romance may have only been brief, but Ygritte’s signature line to her grumpy beau – “You know nothing, Jon Snow” – has become one of the hit show’s constant refrains.

The couple were driven to Wardhill Castle in a Land Rover draped in a white silk ribbon, with “Just Married” painted on the front.

The evening entertainment was by rock band Mumford & Sons, whose lead singer, Marcus Mumford, was a guest at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
