Sounds perfect for chamber music fans

- DANNI SHAFIK

THERE is less than a month to go until Townsville audiences once more get to experience the Australian Festival of Chamber Music.

From classical favourites to world premieres, the city will be flooded with 10 days of music making.

There will be 32 events and 38 world- class artists.

New to 2018 is The Ville’s Pavilion, which has become a performance site for seven events for both visitors and locals to enjoy.

AFCM executive director Justin Ankus said he was thrilled with the AFCM’s new partnership with The Ville.

“The events held here this year will come with wonderful views overlooking Magnetic Island,” he said.

“We are delighted with the renovations.

“It’s just going to be spectacular.”

Ticket purchases this year have been slower than last year’s event which saw record numbers attend throughout the 10 days.

Mr Ankus said he was still very pleased with the way sales were heading and was confident of a big finish.

“The Orpheus Island cruise and the AFCM after- party, which is an event we held for the first time last year, have both been sold out,” he said.

“A few others are close and we always encourage people to get in before they miss their opportunity.”

The 2018 AFCM will be held from July 27 to August 5 with tickets for selected events now available online.
