Tax on vans is greedy

-

THE Queensland Government is legislating to impose a luxury tax on motor homes and campervans costing more than $ 100,000.

Most motor homes are not bought by rich people. They are bought by retirees who have worked, saved and paid taxes all their life.

They are grey nomads who travel the country generating income for many in the tourist industry and dozens of different types of resellers.

Many are people who supported the ALP all throughout their working life with compulsory contributions from their union dues.

These people, now being retired, are no longer a cash cow for the ALP, so what do they do? Instead of giving thanks for the financial support in the past, they bracket them up with Lamborghini owners so that they can gouge more money from them.

Well, Lamborghini owners they are not. They are people who have made a big financial decision to deplete their superannuation balance to buy a lifestyle that they have planned and saved for throughout their working life.

This proposed legislation by the Queensland Government is just one more of their stupid, poorly thought out ideas. It is downright greedy.

If I was to buy a motorhome I would seriously consider buying it registered in another state. After all, I would be transient. JIM CLARK,

Condon.
