Doggies on track for Origin

- LEE PEARCE

GREYHOUND racing returns to the Townsville Showgrounds tonight with an 11race program featuring a State of Origin theme.

Race seven is the Go the Maroons- Origin second- third grade over 380m, a hard race to pick with plenty of chances.

Brindi Chopper ( 1) for Michael Pandelakis has drawn well on the rails and should begin well from the jump.

Amy’s Elite ( 2) for Rhonda Essery has drawn well close to the rails and won from box one three starts back, while Asa Abbandando ( 4) for Clarence Wilcox won his last start from box five in 22.19.

Rockin’ Tonight ( 3) for Danny Preh loves this box and ran a great race last start to go down by a half- length to Rum Runner.

Race 8 is the Maroons Vs Blues Origin first- second grade over 380m – another difficult one to pick.

Robert Lound has two good chances in this race with Rum Runner ( 1), who won his last start from box two and will be a big chance from the red, and Willie Holdon ( 2), who won his last start from box one in a time of 21.78 and should be favourite.

Cairns visitor Black Amex ( 3) for Shane McKenzie has had two starts here for a win and a second, and had a good win last week in Cairns.

Old Mate Kick ( 6) for Joan Newnham prefers the inside and if he jumps should be up there with the frontrunners.

In the Puntersland Live Origin night fourth- fifth grade over 498m, Phantom Henry ( 2) for Essery is coming off a couple of good starts in Cairns over the 544m and if he begins well, will be hard to beat.

Choc Latte Cloud ( 7) for Michael Fusco has also run well over the 544m, including a third behind Cairns Cup winner Natty’s On Fire.

Saludos ( 6) for Bradley Belford won his last from box two in 28.79. He has drawn wider but if he jumps, he will be hard to catch.

Sliding Doors ( 3) for Essery also looks very promising.
