Fairfield Central goes from strength to strength
TOWNSVILLE’ S Fairfield Central Shopping Centre shows no sign of slowing after notching up its 10th birthday this week.
New stores, further expansion and a greater retailer mix are on the cards, although speculation the centre could host the city’s first Aldi supermarket may be premature.
No active contract discussions are under way, its owners say.
Fairfield Central is a partnership between the Fairfield Waters land developers and local shopping centre developer Lancini Property and Development.
From the outset, plans for the centre were to expand as the surrounding community grew and its needs diversified.
LPD regional manager Debbie Gelling said they were committed to continually improving the centre.
“We would like to thank the community, our loyal customers and our retailers that have supported Fairfield Central in the past 10 years,” Ms Gelling said. “We are excited about the future addition of Coles, Kmart Tyre and Auto Service, Carl’s Jnr burgers as well as a family- friendly bistro establishment.
“As we’ve done over the past 10 years, we will continue to grow and develop the centre, cementing it as the locals’ preferred shopping destination.”
Joint venture partners Col Harkness and Grant McOmish attributed the centre’s success to the strong partnership.
“The joint venture was founded on existing strong professional and personal relationships, which has proved to be the bedrock of Fairfield Central’s ongoing success,” Mr Harkness said.
“With quality tenants, catchment growth, and everincreasing patronage at the centre, we’re proud to play our part in offering Fairfield Waters residents all the ingredients necessary to make Fairfield Central an exciting and fulfilling centre of our community, now and into the future.”
Fairfield Central currently has two majors, Woolworths and Kmart, and more than 35 specialty stores over 16,938 square metres. The $ 32 million Stage 3 expansion under way will add an extra 5634sq m of floor space, anchored by a full line Coles supermarket, about 15 specialty stores and another 280 car parks.
Stage 4 is slated to get under way in 2019.
Lancini Property and Development started as a residential construction company in Townsville more than 30 years ago.
Since then, the company’s portfolio has expanded to all facets of the property industry throughout Queensland, including development and management of retail shopping centres, commercial offices, homemaker and industrial properties.
