First the Miners, then look out finals, say Tigers
CENTRALS say they’re happy to keep quietly going about their business as TDRL powerhouses Brothers and Herbert River battle it out for this season’s minor premiership.
The Tigers are third on the ladder – still eight points behind the top two – as they prepare for the road trip out to Charters Towers to play the Miners tonight.
Centrals are yet to beat the Crushers or Brothers this season, but they’re coming off an emphatic 52- 6 win over Burdekin before the bye and coaching coordinator Cameron Miller felt they were in a good position.
“We just quietly go about our business and let Brothers and Herbert River take the glory each week,” Miller said.
“Once we make the top four and the finals start we’ll hopefully take it to a new level and give it our best shot from there.
“We bounced back against Burdekin convincingly so this week we’re doing the same. We’ll just focus on our defence through the middle and making sure we’re physical to match Charters Towers.”
Charters Towers have had a tough season with just two wins, but Miller said Centrals won’t take the Miners lightly on their home turf tonight.
“They’re always tough at home. They’re a big, physical side so we treat each team with the respect they deserve,” he said. “We’re going out there to make sure we get the job done.”
In the weekend’s other games, Herbert River host Western Lions tonight while Burdekin hosts Brothers tomorrow afternoon.
Tonight: Herbert River v Western Lions, 6pm at Crushers Ground, Ingham; Charters Towers v Centrals, 7.30pm at Bill Lewis Oval, Charters Towers. Tomorrow: Burdekin v Brothers, 3.30pm at Rugby Park, Ayr.
